Top 5 Tunes | 06/05/15

As we enter May, there are already songs that are standing out from the crowd for all the right reasons. Here’s a pick of my top 5:

5. Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth – See You Again

With a step back from his profound rap and hip-hop roots, Wiz Khalifa has teamed up with 23 year old American singer Charlie Puth to produce the track ‘See You Again’ for the Furious 7 Soundtrack. The result of this collaboration is an honest and sincere track packed full of real emotion. A relatable song about missing loved ones, Khalifa and Puth have managed to pull at the heartstrings whilst creating a catchy anthem that you just can’t help but sing along to.

4. Florence + The Machine – Ship To Wreck

Three years after Florence’s previous album ‘Ceremonials’, this second single from her third album ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful’ moves away from her trademark, effortless power ballads to create a toe-tapping tune with a light-hearted feel to it. Please keep this new style up Florence; we love it!

3. M.O – Preach

New girl-band on the block M.O have brought out a huge tune to follow up their previous singles ‘Dance On My Own’ and ‘For a Minute’. Taking influences from J.Lo and TLC, M.O have managed to bring the 90’s old-school vibe back to the 21st century chart. In 2014, they were the main support act for Little Mix on their Salute Tour and they took to the stage at Wireless Festival over the summer. With the single only being released this week, we shall have to wait and see where it will chart this weekend.

2. Hozier – Someone New

After Hozier’s platinum selling song ‘Take Me To Church’ reached number 2 in the UK Official Charts, there was high expectations for what he would deliver next, and he certainly hasn’t disappointed. Moving away from the haunting vocals that lingered on his first single, ‘Someone New’ shows us another side to Hozier, and a good one at that. This lighthearted song delivers a chilled out vibe and is the perfect festival song for a crowd to sing-a-long to.

1. LunchMoney Lewis – Bills

The only suitable song to take the crown of this weeks Top 5 Tunes is ‘Bills’ by LunchMoney Lewis. It is the debut single by American hip hop artist Gamal Lewis and it couldn’t be a bigger summer song if it tried.  With the catchy piano riff throughout and the trumpet providing extra amazingness, it’s impossible to get through this song without tapping your toes and having a little boogie. The future can only be bright for LunchMoney Lewis and I can’t wait to see what else he will deliver.
