With a striking pure voice that lingers through the musical airwaves, Hobbie Stuart is one of a lucky few who can balance a frankly insane falsetto with a cool and edgy character, making him the adorable and extremely talented singer that you can’t help but fall in love with. Over four years ago, Hobbie uploaded his first cover onto YouTube of Rihanna’s ‘Only Girl (In The World)’ to what was probably only a handful of subscribers. Fast forward to 2015 and he is now dominating the YouTube scene, with 30 million views worldwide and over a quarter of a million subscribers; pretty good going for a twenty-four-year-old lad from Brighton. Although Hobbie is well known for his huge array of covers, stand-outs being Maroon 5’s ‘Payphone’, Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’ and his personal favourite ‘Hold On We’re Going Home’ by Drake, he is also a talented songwriter and has uploaded an array of originals. He appears to be a fan of the slow and sultry ballad, which is no wonder as they play perfectly to his number one strength, his falsetto. ‘Day One’, his most recently uploaded original, tells of his regret in a relationship and him wanting to remember how good it was when it first started. The video is such an honest performance and it really does make you empathise with him.
Not only are Hobbie’s YouTube videos fantastic, he’s even better (if that’s even possible) when he performs live. Having had the privilege of seeing him live twice, I can assure you that he is not only a great singer but a brilliant performer. He has hugely grown in confidence over the years and when he performs he has the crowd at his fingertips, getting them to sing-a-long, dance and wave their arms at exactly the right time. Not many can pull that off, as well as producing a note perfect performance and killing us with that gorgeous smile of his that makes all girls weak at the knees (or is that just me?)
So what’s next for Hobbie? Well, he has already released one official single ‘Still Here‘ and there are rumours of more originals to be released soon. Sadly for us, these seem to be taking their time. In the meantime however, Hobbie keeps treating us to videos on his YouTube Channel so check those out whilst we patiently anticipate the release of new songs. But please Hobbie, don’t wait too long – the wait is just killing us!
